The CLAHRC South London team is supporting the introduction of an electronic referral system run by the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training. While the logistics are worked out, a 'paper' referral system has been set up. 142 patients and service users have been referred for specialist help between 1 October 2014 and April 2015.
If people use SLaM (South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust) community-based or outpatient services, they are referred to borough-run specialist services: it is the responsibility of every local authority to organise a stop-smoking service for residents. Specialist stop smoking support is now also available to patients on wards at the Maudsley Hospital, at Bethlem Royal Hospital and at Lambeth Hospital via three new tobacco dependence treatment advisors: their appointments have been funded by King's Health Partners Addictions Clinical Academic Group. There is an existing tobacco dependence treatment advisor at Lewisham Hospital (paid for by Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group).
