Type 2 diabetes prevention in children

Background

This project aims to develop and pilot interventions based on changes in diet and behaviour to prevent insulin resistance in children from ethnic groups at high risk of developing diabetes; and to develop and pilot interventions to improve the identification of overweight-obesity in children, particularly children from minority ethnic groups.

Summary

This project involves the use of both qualitative and quantitative research methods and draws on existing population-based data resources including studies of diet, nutrition and insulin resistance in children and studies with gold standard body fatness measurements.  The development of this research has involved collaborators at University College London and Oxford University and in local Public Health departments in South London (Southwark and Lambeth).
